As Co-Chair for Business, Denise's responsibilities are to:
- maintain the treasury which shall be understood to include responsibility for
- collecting and depositing all monies into the Treasury and
- processing the disbursement of all funds within two weeks upon receipt of a valid request;
- manage the DSC office;
- supervise the office staff;
- keep and prepare all financial records of. the Doctoral and Graduate Students' Organization. These records shall be kept up to date at all times and available for presentation within 48 hours to the DSC and/or Steering Committee when requested;
- prepare a preliminary proposal for the yearly budget for consideration by the executive and steering committees;
- act as default Chair at DSC meetings in the absence of both the Officer in Charge of Student Affairs and the Officer in Charge of Communication if, prior to the meeting, the Steering Committee has not appointed a Steering Committee member to Chair the meeting.
Bio
Denise Torres is a third year PhD student in Social Welfare and a returning member of the Steering Committee. As a former health care administrator--with specialties in homeless health care, addiction and mental health issues--she has used her 15 years of post-masters experience to combine academic and professional interests: Denise is currently the Co-PI on a homeless health care coalition study, provides evaluation and training to local social services agencies, serves as a Faculty Advisor to MSW students and adjuncts at Hunter College. A mom of a six-year old special needs child, she balances life through dance and woodworking.
