GC Student Health Insurance Survey
POSTED ON 12/10/07
FROM: Acting Provost Linda Edwards SUBJECT: Health Insurance Survey
Our students’ health insurance needs are an issue of ongoing concern to all of us in the Graduate Center administration. As we pursue various avenues for improving the health insurance options for Graduate Center students, it is essential that we have better information about students' health insurance needs as well as about the health insurance choices that students currently have made.
To help us in our quest for improved health insurance options for Graduate Center students, we ask that you please participate in the attached anonymous survey. The purpose of this survey is not to make any final decisions relating to subsidized student health insurance but rather to assess current data on our students’ student health insurance needs and to inform our planning.
The total time commitment for the survey will be approximately 5 minutes. When you have finished answering the questions, click the "submit" button to anonymously send your responses. Thank you for your participation!
Please click here to start the survey. The survey will close on December 28, 2007.
If you would like to learn more about the health insurance options for graduate students, please go to the online version of the guide to student health insurance and selected health resources for additional information.
Announcement of Short-Term Off-Site Student Health Services Options
POSTED ON 11/13/07
As of Monday, November 12, and pending the restoration of on-site nurse practitioner services at the Graduate Center, “stop-gap” primary health care services will be provided to uninsured and under-insured registered Graduate Center students through funding made available by the Graduate Center administration; also, even with insurance, Graduate Center students using this option can take advantage of expedited waiting time, and those without any drug prescription plan will have access to very low-cost prescription drug formularies.

GC Survey of Student Housing Needs
POSTED ON 10/23/07
A long-standing goal of The Graduate Center has been to obtain a dormitory for students, especially those in their first or second year at the GC. To better inform the administration of student needs, The Graduate Center, together with Baruch, John Jay and Hunter, have commissioned a housing survey to be administered to students. The survey will gather current student housing data, e.g. where our students live, what rents they pay, the types of housing units they rent, with whom they live, etc. It will also test student interest in Graduate Center-sponsored housing in various locations in the City, at various rent levels. The results will be the sole property of The Graduate Center and will remain strictly confidential. Click here to take the survey.

Temporary Wellness Center Reimbursement Plan
POSTED ON 10/09/07 | UPDATED ON 12/15/07
At the Sept. 7 meeting of the DSC Plenary, a temporary measure was approved to create a temporary reimbursement plan that will allow up to $50 per student, per visit remunerated back to the student for costs incurred during this period without a nurse practitioner at the Wellness Center.
To be reimbursed students must submit receipts and a Wellness Center Medical Reimbursement Check Request Form to room 6422 or call Debra Mandes (212-817-7026) to arrange an appointment. All receipts and bills must be in English and must at least match the total being requested if less than $50. Original receipts and bills must be pasted/taped flat to 8 ½” x 11” plain paper and submitted along with a fully legible copy. Receipts and bills being submitted may not be applied to dental or mental health services, eyecare, co-pays, or prescriptions.
At the Nov. 14 meeting of the DSC Plenary, the temporary measure was discontinued effective December 1 given the availability of free "stop gap" services. A two-week window was provided to ensure students could continue care or keep previously scheduled medical visits. All receipts for any primary care reimbursements incurred between 07/01/07 and 11/31/07 must be submitted to the Wellness Center by 1/14/07.
