Luso-Brazilian Studies Group Constitution
From cunydsc.org
Governance: Only students matriculated at the Graduate Center will hold voting membership. Quorum shall consist of a simple majority. Non-voting membership is open to non-matriculated Graduate Center students as well as to students and faculty from other academic institutions.
Elections will be held by voluntary nomination every academic year, in the fall semester, by general anonymous vote. There will be one chair, two co-chairs and a treasurer. All four will share the responsibilities of scheduling and running bi-monthly meetings and organizing events.
Membership: Membership is open to all Graduate Center students, and we welcome the participation of all C.U.N.Y. students and faculty as well as those from other institutions. By-monthly meetings open to all voting and non-voting members will address the topics of importance for the future months.
Funding: Our events will be free of charge. The only regular means of support will come from D.S.C. funds. Whenever necessary, the chair and co-chairs will seek additional funding from CUNY academic departments and programs, as well as outside institutions.
Events: The group will host monthly events (lectures, films series, readings or debates) with students, faculty, and/or guest speakers, addressing various aspects of the Luso-Brazilian world. Whenever possible there will be a reception following these events, offering an opportunity for students and scholars in various disciplines to interact and exchange ideas.
