SOCIAL AND POLITICAL THEORY STUDENTS ASSOCIATION

Article I: Name and Pronunciation
- a) The name of this association is the Social and Political Theory Students Association.
- b) The organization’s acronym – SPTSA – shall be pronounced “Schpitsah.”

Article II: Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to:
- a) Provide the GC community with an inter-disciplinary forum for research, discussion, and networking relating to scholarly and professional pursuits in social theory.
- b) To bring together student and faculty from various programs, including but not limited to: Comparative Literature, Economics, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Theater, and the Women’s Studies Certificate Program.
- c) To support and encourage students and faculty from various programs in the study of various aspects of social theory.

Article III: Membership
- a) Membership shall be comprised of matriculated and non-matriculated students within the GC who indicate their wishes to assume the privileges and responsibilities of membership.
- b) Each member in good standing who is a matriculated student may hold any office in the organization.
- c) Each member in good standing, matriculated or non-matriculated, holds one vote.
- d) In order to maintain good standing, a member must have a good record of participation in meetings and events of the association during the present semester.
- e) Each member shall be entitled to participate and be a member of other associations within the GC.

Article IV: Officers and Duties
- a) SPTSA officers shall consist of two co-chairs, equally sharing all responsibilities and duties.
- b) Elections for all offices shall be held at the second meeting of each semester.
- c) Co-chairs may be removed from office at any time by a simple majority (50% + 1) vote of the members in good standing.
- d) Any committees formed shall be comprised of volunteers.
