Meeting Minutes, Health Issues Committee

March 19, 2009

Present: Jill Belli, Allyson Foster, Jeremy Seideman, Suzanne Tamang, Mariya Radeva
Absent: Frank Episale, Samantha Sheppard, Denise Torres

I. Meeting called to order 5:39 pm.

II. Old minutes approved unanimously.

III. Old Business

a. Health Issues Committee Blog – contents of the blog were discussed (directions to health resources; discussion board with questions and comments, including discussions about NYSHIP). Decision made to publicize blog through Advocate. Goal – to have content within the semester.

b. Blood drive – the Health Issues Committee was unable to coordinate for the spring’s blood drive, but hopes to help out for future ones.

c. Wellness Fair – Denise will talk more about past years’ fairs at the next meeting. Mariya will follow up with Elise Perram on the date. Suggestion to invite E. Perram to talk about the Wellness Fairs organized in the past.

d. Electronic Record – the DSC money previously allocated to the Wellness center has not been used for any purchase. Titanium scheduling purchased for psychological counseling with other moneys. Suzanne to check what systems are in use at other CUNY schools.

IV. New Business

a. Budget – decision to recommend to Chris Sula, DSC Business co-chair, a budget for 2009-2010 as follows: 1,000 to Wellness Fair, 7,500 for Wellness Center lab reimbursements, and 96,000 for Wellness Center.

b. NYSHIP and Wellness Center– discussed together in relation to how benefits from each might overlap or conflict; the need to produce and disseminate guidance for optimal use of these two health resources by students was identified. Relevant benefits include coverage for family, tests, and summer coverage. Suggestion to invite representatives of the Wellness Center and Student Affairs to the next HIC meeting to clarify the current situation, including test outsourcing to Mt. Sinai and the technicalities of their subsidy with student fees from DSC.

c. International Students Blog - to start with a section on Health Issues Blog that possibly directs to relevant sections on other GC sites.

d. Health Insurance – suggestion to invite speakers from the Adjunct Project, Wellness Center, NYSHIP or Student Affairs to our next meeting.
