CS called the meeting to order at 3:04PM

I. Approval of Agenda
CS motions to change IVd to “Economics Alumni Day”, IVe to “Situations Journal,” and to move IVd “Professional Development Grant Applications” to IVf. SR seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

II. Approval of Cultural Affairs Minutes of December 4, 2009
KL motioned to approve the minutes, SR seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

III. Approval of Professional Development Minutes of December 4, 2009
SR motioned to approve the minutes, Anne Donlon (AD) seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

IV. Review of Grand Applications
a. Cultural Affairs Grand Applications
CS presented the current CA grant applications. CA members discussed the proposed event budgets and descriptions, the appropriateness of the proposed projects and the overall benefit of the projects to Graduate Center students.

SR motioned to approve CA funding for the following grant applications in the amounts of:
“Spanking and Poetry: A Conference on Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick” $700
“The Third Annual Celebrating Latino Health and Culture! (CLHC) Academic and Cultural Event $300
“French Graduate Student Conference: Marginaliser le(s) Centre(s) $400
“Memory and Oral History” $668
“New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival” $700
“Pearl Kibre Medieval Study Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference” $500
Gregory Donovan (GD) seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

b. Geraldine Pratt Master Class and Lecture Grant Application
CS recognizeed Stephen Boatright to discuss the application. Mr. Boatright discussed attendance, budget and other related topics.

SR motioned to award the Geraldine Pratt Master Class and Lecture $700, GD seconded. The motion passed with 1 abstention (KL).

c. Queens College Developmental Disabilities Conference
CS reads letter to committee from Amanda Mentzer, Principal Investigator. GD asked about the interdisciplinary nature of event. SR motioned to fund Queens College Developmental Disabilities Conference $700, KF seconded. The motion failed (2 Yeas: KF, SR; 4 Nays: ZGN, AR, JS CS; 3 Abstentions; AD, GD, KL). KL motioned to fund the event in the amount of $300, GD seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

d. Economics Alumni Day
CS recognized Kyle Bouser to discuss the event. Mr. Bouser discussed various aspects of the event in detail.

e. Situations Journal
CS discussed the proposal and answered questions about its past funding. SR motioned to postpone consideration of the award until the rest of the applications were considered, KL seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

f. Professional Development Grant Applications
SR motions to approve Economics Alumni Day for $510, GD seconds. The motion passed with KF abstaining.

CS presented the current PD grant applications. PD members discussed the proposed event budgets and descriptions, the appropriateness of the proposed projects and the overall benefit of the projects to Graduate Center students.

KL motioned to approve PD funding for the following grant applications in the amounts of:
“First Annual Graduate Student Conference: “Sociological Reimagination: Crisis and Critique Today” $500
“Resisting Enclosure: Workshops on academics and activism” $700
“The 9th Annual Nature Ecology Society Colloquium at the City University of New York” $700
“13th Annual CUNY Graduate Student Philosophy Conference” $700
“3rd Annual Classics Graduate Student Conference” $700
“Queen College Developmental Disabilities Conference” $300
“Building Brides: all Psychology Research Day” $700
“(Re)making (Re)presentation Graduate Student Conference” $470
“Spatial Scholars Geraldine Pratt Master Class and Lecture” $700
AR seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The PD Committee returned to consideration of the Situations Journal application. GD motioned to fund $700, AD seconded. The motion failed to carry (3 Yeas: SR, AD, GD; 3 Nays: JS, AR, CS; 2 Abstentions: KL, KF). KL motioned to fund Situations Journal $500 with inclusion of a recommendation on seeking sustainable funding in the future, GD seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

There was no new business.

VIII. Adjournment
SR motioned to adjourn, GD seconded. The motion passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 3:51PM.
